GIMS Rolls Out Mobile Cancer Screening Unit to Bring Early Diagnosis to Underserved Communities

Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida has launched a fully equipped Mobile Cancer Screening Unit donated under a CSR partnership  to expand early diagnosis and preventive care for common cancers, especially breast and cervical cancers, in remote or underserved areas.

Glimpse:

Unveiled in early December 2025, the mobile unit is outfitted with advanced diagnostic tools including X-ray systems, mammography, colposcopy, lab facilities and examination space to enable comprehensive screening directly in communities with limited access to hospital services.

GIMS, a key public health and medical education institute in Greater Noida, has added a state-of-the-art Mobile Cancer Screening Unit to its preventive healthcare outreach efforts, with the goal of expanding access to crucial cancer screening in areas that lack reliable diagnostic infrastructure. The unit was donated by India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The screening vehicle was inaugurated in early December and is designed to travel to high-need districts and underserved communities, enabling early detection of cancer cases that might otherwise go unnoticed until late stages. It brings preventive health services much closer to people who face barriers due to distance, cost or limited local medical facilities.

Equipped as a mobile diagnostic centre on wheels, the unit features X-ray imaging, mammography, a colposcopy setup, laboratory testing capabilities and dedicated patient examination spaces. This makes it fully capable of performing breast and cervical cancer screening in remote locations  a critical step given that these forms of cancer are among the most common and deadly if detected late.

GIMS hospital leadership noted that the unit will soon begin outreach visits across identified areas in Gautam Budh Nagar and neighbouring districts, bringing preventive services directly to women and populations who would otherwise have significant travel or access challenges. The initiative complements broader public health efforts to increase early detection and improve outcomes through regular screening.

“By taking screening tools out of the hospital and into the communities, we’re removing barriers and giving people a better chance at early diagnosis and treatment.”
