e& UAE Partners with Aster Pharmacy to Launch Innovative “Pharmacy in a Box” Initiative

e& UAE has partnered with Aster Pharmacy to introduce “Pharmacy in a Box,” a modular, tech-enabled micro-pharmacy solution designed to bring fast, convenient prescription and over-the-counter medicine access to underserved and high-traffic locations across the UAE. The initiative combines compact automated dispensing units, AI-driven inventory management, and seamless digital ordering to enhance last-mile pharmacy delivery and improve medication adherence.

Glimpse:

“Pharmacy in a Box” units are compact, self-contained kiosks equipped with secure automated dispensing systems, real-time stock monitoring, QR-code-based prescription validation, contactless payment, and integration with Aster’s online pharmacy platform. The first installations are planned for community centres, residential complexes, corporate offices, universities, and petrol stations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with rapid scaling targeted across all seven emirates. The solution aims to reduce wait times, increase after-hours access, and support chronic disease patients by ensuring medicine availability closer to home or work.

e& UAE, a leading telecommunications and digital services provider, has signed a strategic partnership with Aster Pharmacy, one of the largest pharmacy chains in the GCC, to roll out “Pharmacy in a Box”Β  an innovative micro-pharmacy concept aimed at transforming last-mile medicine access across the United Arab Emirates. The announcement was made during a joint press conference attended by senior executives from both organisations and representatives from the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention.

“Pharmacy in a Box” consists of compact, modular, and highly secure automated dispensing kiosks that can be deployed in non-traditional locations such as residential communities, office buildings, university campuses, shopping malls, petrol stations, and public transport hubs. Each unit is connected to Aster’s central pharmacy network and inventory system, allowing real-time stock visibility, automated replenishment, and integration with Aster’s existing online ordering and delivery platform.

Patients can access the kiosk in three ways: scan a QR code generated from their e-prescription (via Aster’s app or doctor portal), use the touch-screen interface to upload a prescription, or place orders through the Aster app for pickup at the nearest box. The system verifies prescriptions through secure digital authentication, dispenses medications in tamper-proof packaging, and provides printed instructions and counselling notes. Contactless payments and integration with popular digital wallets ensure a smooth, hygienic experience.

The initiative directly addresses key challenges in UAE healthcare: long pharmacy queues during peak hours, limited access to medicines in certain residential or commercial zones, and the need for faster refill options for patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and cardiovascular diseases. By placing smart kiosks in high-traffic, convenient locations, e& and Aster aim to improve medication adherence, reduce unnecessary hospital visits for routine refills, and enhance overall patient convenience.

The first “Pharmacy in a Box” units are scheduled to go live in select locations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the coming months, with plans to scale to all emirates within the next 12–18 months. Both partners confirmed that the kiosks meet stringent UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention guidelines for medicine dispensing, temperature-controlled storage, and data privacy under Federal Law No. 45 of 2021.

Industry observers view the partnership as a significant step in the evolution of pharmacy services in the UAE, combining e&’s expertise in digital infrastructure and IoT with Aster’s deep pharmacy network and clinical credibility. The initiative is also expected to generate valuable anonymized data insights (with full patient consent) that could inform future public health planning and medication supply chain optimization.

β€œPharmacy in a Box brings medicines closer to people’s daily lives faster, safer, and more conveniently than ever before. This is healthcare reimagined at the last mile.”
