Philips Unveils Cloud-Based IntelliSite Pathology Solution on HealthSuite Platform

Published: March 13, 2026

Philips has launched a fully cloud-based version of its IntelliSite Pathology Solution integrated with the Philips HealthSuite platform. The new offering enables secure, scalable digital pathology workflows, remote collaboration, AI-assisted image analysis, and seamless data sharing across healthcare networksΒ  empowering pathologists with faster access to high-resolution whole-slide images and advanced tools for improved diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.

Glimpse:

The cloud-based IntelliSite Pathology Solution allows labs to upload, store, and review whole-slide images from anywhere via a secure, HIPAA-compliant cloud environment on Philips HealthSuite. It supports real-time multi-site collaboration, AI-powered image analytics for cell detection and biomarker quantification, automated workflow prioritization, and integration with major LIS and EHR systems. The solution reduces physical slide transport needs, accelerates turnaround times for complex cases, and facilitates second opinions and research while maintaining robust data privacy and regulatory compliance.

Philips has officially introduced a fully cloud-based iteration of its IntelliSite Pathology Solution, now hosted on the Philips HealthSuite digital platform, marking a major advancement in digital pathology accessibility and scalability. The announcement was made during a dedicated showcase at HIMSS 2026, where Philips demonstrated how the cloud deployment enables pathology departments to move beyond on-premise hardware limitations and embrace flexible, remote-capable workflows without compromising image quality or security. The solution is designed to support high-volume labs, academic centres, and regional networks that need to share cases across sites or access subspecialty expertise remotely.

The cloud-based IntelliSite leverages Philips HealthSuite’s secure, scalable infrastructure to store and manage whole-slide images (WSI) at petabyte scale, with rapid upload and retrieval even for multi-gigabyte files. Pathologists can review cases from any location using a web-based viewer that delivers diagnostic-grade image quality, advanced annotation tools, and real-time collaboration features for tumor boards, second opinions, or frozen section consultations. The platform includes built-in AI applications for automated cell quantification, tissue segmentation, biomarker scoring (e.g., PD-L1, HER2, Ki-67), and flagging of suspicious regions, helping to reduce diagnostic variability and accelerate turnaround for urgent cases.

Integration is seamless with major laboratory information systems (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), and Philips’ own IntelliSite scanners, supporting DICOM standards and FHIR-based interoperability. The cloud architecture also enables centralized archiving, disaster recovery, and elastic scaling during peak workloads, while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and emerging global regulations for digital pathology data handling. Philips emphasized end-to-end encryption, role-based access controls, audit logging, and patient consent management to address privacy and security concerns in cloud-hosted clinical workflows.

Early adopter labs in the U.S. and Europe have already transitioned portions of their caseload to the cloud-based IntelliSite, reporting reduced physical slide handling, faster access to subspecialists, and improved collaboration during multidisciplinary reviews. In India, where digital pathology adoption is accelerating under the National Digital Health Mission, Philips plans targeted rollout to large hospital chains and reference labs, with localization for regional language support and ABDM-compliant data exchange. The company also announced plans to expand AI algorithm availability on the platform, including tools for additional cancer types and infectious disease detection.

This launch positions Philips as a frontrunner in cloud-native digital pathology, addressing key barriers like infrastructure cost, storage demands, and geographic limitations while enabling scalable, collaborative diagnostics that can improve patient outcomes through earlier and more precise disease detection.

β€œBy moving IntelliSite to the cloud on HealthSuite, we’re removing barriers to digital pathology adoption and empowering pathologists to collaborate seamlessly no matter where they are to deliver faster, more accurate diagnoses for patients worldwide.”
