Paras Health, a North India-focused hospital chain, has announced plans to construct a 300 bed facility in Gurugram and a 500 bed hospital in Ludhiana, adding nearly 800 beds as part of its strategy to reach approximately 3,000 beds by 2029 while strengthening its presence in Haryana and entering Punjab.
Glimpse:
The expansion initiative, funded through internal accruals and existing capital, will take Paras Healthβs current capacity of 2,135 beds (as of March 2024) closer to the 3,000-bed target within the next three years. In addition to the two new greenfield projects, the company is also scaling up existing facilities in Patna, Ranchi, and Panchkula to meet rising healthcare demand in underserved areas of North India.
Paras Health is speeding up its expansion drive across North India by developing two major new facilities a 300-bed hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, and a 500-bed hospital in Ludhiana, Punjab. The Ludhiana project marks the companyβs official entry into Punjab, while the new Gurugram facility will further reinforce its footprint in the National Capital Region. Together, these developments are expected to add around 800 beds over the coming years and play a key role in helping the chain approach its ambitious goal of nearly 3,000 operational beds by 2029.
The hospital group, which began operations in 2006 with its first facility in Gurugram, currently runs eight hospitals and has grown its bed strength significantly from 1,250 beds in March 2022 to 2,135 beds in March 2024. Apart from the new constructions, Paras Health is also focusing on internal capacity enhancement at existing sites. This includes increasing beds beyond 400 in Patna, expanding the large campus in Ranchi (currently 300 beds), and scaling up the Panchkula facility to nearly 500 beds by utilizing recently acquired adjacent land.
Dharminder Kumar Nagar, Managing Director of Paras Health, highlighted that the expansion is driven by persistent demand-supply gaps in several parts of North India, including Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. He noted that even within mature urban markets like Gurugram, certain pockets remain underserved, creating opportunities for quality healthcare infrastructure. The company plans to fund this growth primarily through internal accruals and previously raised capital, without requiring fresh fundraising at this stage. While the broader sector sees consolidation through acquisitions, Paras Health is not actively pursuing any immediate deals but remains open to future opportunities.
This steady, demand-led approach reflects the chainβs commitment to building as many quality beds and hospitals as possible in the region. Industry observers point out that India still needs 20-30 additional corporate hospital projects in underserved areas to bridge the existing healthcare gap, and Paras Healthβs focused North India strategy positions it well to contribute meaningfully to this need.
βWe are building another 300-bed facility in Gurugram and a 500-bed hospital in Ludhiana, which will mark our entry into Punjab. With these additions, we should be closer to 3,000 beds in the next three years. We will continue to serve the North Indian market. The opportunity is to build as many beds and hospitals as possible.β
