The Tripura government has implemented a QR code based digital health system through the Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS) across government healthcare facilities. Patients can now scan QR codes at hospitals and primary health centres to instantly generate outpatient (OPD) tickets, access digital health records via their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, and benefit from e-prescriptions and telemedicine services.
Glimpse:
Announced recently with an MoU signed on March 30, 2026, with Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), the initiative aims to reduce waiting times, eliminate paperwork, and enable seamless access to medical histories across facilities. The system is being rolled out statewide in district hospitals, sub divisional hospitals, rural hospitals, and multiple primary health centres, aligning with Indiaβs Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
In a significant push toward digital healthcare, the Tripura government has deployed a QR code enabled system under the Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS). This platform allows patients to simply scan a QR code at any government healthcare facility to generate outpatient tickets instantly, bypassing long queues and manual registration processes.
Every citizen is assigned an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, which gives doctors quick and secure access to the patientβs complete medical history, lab reports, and previous treatments across different institutions. This eliminates the need for repeated documentation and supports more informed clinical decisions. The system also enables e-prescriptions and integrates telemedicine services, allowing patients in remote areas to consult specialists in urban centres like Agartala without travelling.
The rollout covers district hospitals, sub divisional hospitals, rural hospitals, and several primary health centres, with plans to extend it to all government health facilities in the state. The project was operationalized through an MoU signed on March 30, 2026, with Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL). The Tripura Health Secretary has directed all officials and healthcare staff to fully support the initiative for smooth implementation.
This development is part of Tripuraβs broader efforts to create an integrated digital health ecosystem under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, aiming to make healthcare more accessible, efficient, and transparent for all citizens, including those in marginalized and remote communities.
βThe Health Secretary directed officials to provide all necessary support and emphasized the active involvement of state doctors and healthcare staff in the initiative.β
