India’s digital health ecosystem is witnessing a major boost as the government accelerates integration of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) with key healthcare platforms like HMIS, JANANI, and eSanjeevani. According to Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, this integration is a critical step toward building a Connected, Efficient, And Data Driven Healthcare system.
Speaking at the National Summit on Innovation & Inclusivity in Chandigarh, the Health Secretary emphasized that linking ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) IDs across multiple platforms enables seamless access to patient data, improving coordination between healthcare providers and enhancing clinical decision making.
The integration allows different systems such as hospital management information systems (HMIS), maternal health tracking platform JANANI, and telemedicine service eSanjeevani to communicate with each other. This ensures that patient records are unified and accessible across healthcare touchpoints, reducing duplication, improving accuracy, and enabling continuity of care.
Alongside this, the government launched several digital health initiatives, including the Swasth Bharat Portal, JANANI Portal, and a Best Practice Compendium under the National Health Mission (NHM). These initiatives aim to standardize healthcare delivery, promote innovation, and scale successful models across states.
The JANANI platform, in particular, strengthens maternal and child healthcare through real time tracking and digital monitoring, while the broader ABDM framework supports consent based data sharing ensuring patient privacy while enabling interoperability.
Officials also highlighted improvements in healthcare infrastructure and affordability, noting that thousands of facilities now meet national quality standards, and public healthcare services are increasingly accessible with minimal out of pocket expenditure.
The push for ABHA linked integration reflects a broader transformation in India’s healthcare system from fragmented, paper based processes to a Unified Digital Ecosystem. By enabling real time data exchange and better coordination, ABDM is expected to improve efficiency, transparency, and patient outcomes across the country.
“We are actively working towards integration of ABHA ID with platforms like HMIS, JANANI and eSanjeevani.”
