SS Innovations has successfully conducted a landmark Robotic Telesurgery Between Australia and India, covering a distance of more than 10,000 kilometers, marking a major milestone in global remote healthcare and surgical robotics.
The procedure connected a surgeon in Perth with a patient in Indore using the company’s indigenous SSi Mantra Surgical Robotic System and portable MantrAsana Tele-Surgeon Console. The surgery was remotely performed by renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Mohit Bhandari during the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress 2026.
The operation involved a Robotic Gastrojejunostomy, a complex gastrointestinal procedure, which was completed with remarkable precision in approximately three minutes. Despite the massive geographic distance, the system maintained a Round Trip Latency Below 150 Milliseconds, ensuring near real time responsiveness and surgical accuracy.
The achievement highlights the growing maturity of Telerobotic Surgery, where advanced robotic systems, ultra low latency networks, and high definition visualization allow surgeons to operate remotely across continents. The portable MantrAsana console was specifically designed to enable surgeons to conduct procedures from compact environments such as offices or conference venues.
This milestone builds on a series of earlier achievements by SS Innovations, including India’s first long-distance robotic cardiac telesurgeries and previous intercontinental procedures between India and France. The company’s SSi Mantra platform is also the First Robotic Surgical System In India to Receive CDSCO Approval for Telesurgery and Teleproctoring capabilities.
Experts believe such advancements could transform global healthcare delivery by enabling Specialized Surgical Expertise To Reach Remote and Underserved Regions without requiring patients or surgeons to travel. The technology also opens new possibilities in surgical training, emergency care, and international medical collaboration.
With over 170 telesurgeries already performed using the SSi Mantra platform, India is increasingly positioning itself as a major innovator in Robotic Surgery and Connected Healthcare Technologies.
“Physical distance is no longer a limitation in delivering advanced surgical care.”
