US-based medical technology giant Zimmer Biomet has officially launched its new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bengaluru, strengthening India’s growing role as a global hub for healthcare technology innovation, digital engineering, and medical device support services. Multiple reports confirmed that the facility will focus on advancing digital healthcare solutions, AI-driven technologies, data analytics, cybersecurity, and global business operations.

Zimmer Biomet is one of the world’s leading medtech companies specializing in orthopaedics, robotic assisted surgery, musculoskeletal healthcare, implants, and digital surgery technologies. The company stated that the Bengaluru GCC will support innovation across areas including software engineering, cloud infrastructure, AI-enabled healthcare systems, finance operations, customer experience, and enterprise digital transformation.

According to company officials, the center is expected to create significant high skilled employment opportunities in fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, digital product engineering, and healthcare analytics. Bengaluru was selected because of its strong technology ecosystem, large talent pool, and rapidly growing reputation as a global innovation destination for multinational healthcare and technology companies.

Industry analysts say India has become one of the most preferred destinations for Global Capability Centers due to its combination of engineering talent, cost advantages, and digital expertise. Several healthcare and medtech companies including Philips, GE HealthCare, Siemens Healthineers, Medtronic, and Johnson & Johnson already operate major technology and innovation centers in Bengaluru and other Indian cities.

Zimmer Biomet also emphasized that the new GCC will support the company’s long term strategy around smart surgery, robotics, AI-enabled orthopaedic care, connected healthcare systems, and data driven patient outcomes. The company has been increasingly investing in robotic assisted surgical platforms and digital healthcare technologies globally.

Experts believe the launch reflects a broader global trend where healthcare companies are building technology led operations in India to support innovation, R&D, and digital transformation. GCCs are now evolving beyond traditional back office support roles and are increasingly handling core product development, AI research, cybersecurity, cloud architecture, and healthcare platform engineering.

Healthcare and technology observers also note that Bengaluru’s growing medtech ecosystem is benefiting from increased investment in AI healthcare, medical robotics, digital surgery, health data analytics, and connected medical devices. India’s expanding healthcare digitization efforts and skilled workforce continue attracting global healthcare corporations looking to scale innovation operations.

“India offers exceptional talent and innovation capabilities that align with our digital transformation goals.”
