Wellstar Health System and CLEAR have partnered to deploy CLEAR1’s digital identity-based check-in platform across Wellstar’s outpatient and hospital locations, aiming to reduce administrative friction, cut staff time, and improve patient experience at the very first touchpoint.
Glimpse:
With CLEAR1 integrated into Wellstar’s clinic and hospital workflows (via Epic Welcome), patients can complete pre-registration via mobile, then simply verify with a selfie at a kiosk or tablet on-site. Early results show check-in adoption rising from 2 % to 10 % and more than 1,500 staff hours freed in six months.
Wellstar Health System, one of Georgia’s largest nonprofit healthcare networks, has partnered with secure-identity company CLEAR to modernize patient check-ins through the CLEAR1 digital platform. The system allows patients to verify their identity on mobile before appointments and complete check-in at kiosks with a simple selfie, replacing time-consuming manual ID verification and paperwork.
Since launching the pilot at Wellstar’s Avalon Health Park in May 2024 and expanding to additional sites, digital check-in adoption rose from 2% to 10%. The initiative saved over 1,500 staff hours, improved data accuracy by reducing duplicate records, and achieved strong patient satisfaction 73% said they would use CLEAR1 again. The case study estimated potential savings of about $2 million per 25,000 verified patients.
Encouraged by these results, Wellstar plans to expand CLEAR1 across 150+ locations and integrate it for uses like MyChart account setup, workforce access, and online scheduling. Leaders from both organizations highlight the collaboration as a step toward a faster, safer, and more efficient patient experience eliminating the traditional “clipboard” and aligning healthcare with modern digital expectations.
“Our patients’ time is precious. Introducing CLEAR’s secure technology helps make the check-in process even more efficient and safe.”
