Thermo Fisher Scientific and NVIDIA have announced a strategic partnership to integrate advanced AI capabilities into laboratory workflows, focusing on accelerating scientific discovery, improving lab efficiency, and enabling smarter automation across genomics, proteomics, cell analysis, and biopharma research. The collaboration combines Thermo Fisher’s industry-leading instrumentation and digital platforms with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI software stack to create next-generation intelligent lab solutions.

Glimpse:

Unveiled on January 22, 2026, the partnership will embed NVIDIA’s AI technologies including accelerated computing, generative AI, and edge inference into Thermo Fisher’s instruments, software ecosystem (such as the Thermo Fisher Cloud and SampleManager LIMS), and lab automation platforms. Initial focus areas include AI-driven image analysis for microscopy, predictive maintenance for lab equipment, automated experiment design in drug discovery, and real-time quality control in bioprocessing. The collaboration aims to reduce manual intervention, shorten research timelines, and enhance reproducibility in high-throughput labs worldwide.

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global leader in scientific instrumentation and laboratory services, has entered into a multi-year strategic collaboration with NVIDIA to bring advanced artificial intelligence and accelerated computing directly into laboratory environments. The partnership, announced on January 22, 2026, is designed to transform how scientists conduct research, automate routine processes, and extract deeper insights from complex biological data.

The collaboration will integrate NVIDIA’s powerful GPU-accelerated computing platforms, AI software frameworks (such as NVIDIA BioNeMo and NIM microservices), and edge AI capabilities with Thermo Fisher’s extensive portfolio of instruments including mass spectrometers, next-generation sequencers, flow cytometers, microscopes, and lab automation systems as well as its cloud-based digital ecosystem (Thermo Fisher Cloud, SampleManager LIMS, and Connect platform).

Key application areas include:

  • AI-enhanced image analysis and interpretation in high-content microscopy and pathology
  • Predictive analytics for equipment maintenance to minimise downtime
  • Generative AI tools to assist in experiment design, protocol optimisation, and hypothesis generation
  • Real-time quality monitoring and process control in bioprocessing and cell therapy manufacturing
  • Edge inference on lab instruments for faster decision-making without cloud dependency

By combining Thermo Fisher’s domain expertise in life sciences instrumentation with NVIDIA’s leadership in accelerated computing and AI, the partners aim to create intelligent, connected lab workflows that reduce manual effort, shorten discovery timelines, and improve reproducibility critical needs in genomics, proteomics, cell and gene therapy, and drug development.

Marc N. Casper, Chairman, President, and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific, stated: “AI is reshaping scientific discovery, and this collaboration with NVIDIA allows us to bring powerful, scalable intelligence directly into the lab. We are building tools that will help researchers work smarter, faster, and with greater confidence ultimately accelerating breakthroughs that improve human health.”

Ricky Cooper, Vice President of Healthcare and Life Sciences at NVIDIA, added: “Thermo Fisher’s instruments generate massive amounts of high-value data. By pairing this with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI stack, we can unlock new levels of insight and automation that were previously out of reach. Together, we’re creating the intelligent lab of the future.”

The partnership builds on NVIDIA’s growing footprint in life sciences and Thermo Fisher’s long-standing commitment to digital transformation in the laboratory. Initial joint solutions are expected to be demonstrated in 2026, with broader commercial availability targeted for 2027 across Thermo Fisher’s global customer base.

This collaboration underscores the accelerating convergence of AI, accelerated computing, and laboratory instrumentation positioning Thermo Fisher and NVIDIA as key architects of the next era in scientific discovery and precision medicine.

“The intelligent lab of the future will be powered by AI that works seamlessly with scientists not replacing them, but amplifying their ability to discover and innovate faster than ever before.”
