Wolters Kluwer Health Boosts Agentic AI to Automate Medication Workflows

Published: February 16, 2026

Wolters Kluwer Health has expanded its agentic AI capabilities with new autonomous agents specifically designed to automate and optimize medication-related workflows. The enhanced suite now handles medication reconciliation, order verification, drug interaction checks, dosing adjustments, and formulary compliance freeing pharmacists and clinicians from repetitive tasks while maintaining safety and regulatory adherence.

Glimpse:

The upgraded agentic AI platform deploys intelligent agents that proactively review orders, pull relevant patient data, cross-check against clinical guidelines (via UpToDate and other sources), flag risks, suggest alternatives, and route complex cases to humans. It integrates seamlessly with major EHRs and pharmacy systems, reducing medication errors, shortening turnaround times, and improving adherence to hospital protocols. The expansion targets hospitals and health systems looking to scale clinical pharmacy operations without adding headcount.

Wolters Kluwer Health, a global leader in clinical decision support and healthcare information solutions, has significantly expanded its agentic AI offerings by introducing specialized autonomous agents focused on end-to-end medication management. The new capabilities build on the company’s existing AI foundation to create a more proactive, workflow-orchestrating layer that operates 24/7 within hospital and pharmacy environments.

Key features of the expanded medication workflow agents include:

Automated medication reconciliation  pulling data from multiple sources to build accurate home-medication lists and identify discrepancies Intelligent order verification real-time screening for drug–drug interactions, allergies, renal/hepatic dosing adjustments, and duplicate therapy Formulary & guideline enforcement automatic substitution recommendations and alerts when orders deviate from hospital formulary or evidence-based protocols Prioritization & escalation routing high-risk or ambiguous orders to pharmacists while handling routine checks independently Audit-ready documentation generating complete, traceable records of every agent action for compliance and quality review

The agents are “goal-oriented”  given a high-level objective (e.g., “verify this admission medication list”), they plan, execute, and adapt steps autonomously while always keeping clinicians in the loop for final sign-off. They draw clinical knowledge from Wolters Kluwer’s trusted resources (UpToDate, Lexicomp, Medi-Span) and learn from local hospital patterns to become more accurate over time.

Early adopters have reported 40–60% reductions in pharmacist time spent on routine verification, faster order processing, fewer medication errors, and improved compliance with antimicrobial stewardship and opioid prescribing guidelines. The solution is fully compatible with major EHR platforms and supports ABDM interoperability standards for Indian deployments.

This expansion reflects Wolters Kluwer’s strategy to evolve from static decision support to dynamic, agentic orchestration helping overburdened clinical teams focus on high-value patient care rather than administrative tasks.

“Agentic AI doesn’t just alert it acts intelligently on behalf of the care team, so pharmacists and physicians can spend more time on what matters most: the patient.”
