Meghalaya is set to roll out an annual health survey aimed at strengthening data driven policymaking and improving healthcare delivery across the state. The initiative, led by the State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC), is designed to generate reliable, district level health data to guide planning and interventions.
The survey will collect insights on population health, service utilisation, and emerging disease trends, helping authorities better understand regional health challenges. It is expected to bridge long-standing data gaps and support evidence based decision making in the healthcare system.
One of the key outcomes of the initiative will be the creation of annual district health profiles and a population health score, enabling local administrators to prioritize resources and tailor interventions more effectively.
The survey is also complemented by efforts to digitize healthcare, including a pilot project on electronic health records (EHRs) to address fragmented patient data and improve continuity of care. Several health facilities have already begun adopting this system, with more expected to follow.
Officials believe that combining data driven surveys with digital health infrastructure will significantly enhance planning, service delivery, and public health outcomes. The initiative marks a major step toward building a more responsive, efficient, and insight driven healthcare system in the state.
This move reflects a broader trend in India’s healthcare sector, where governments are increasingly leveraging data and technology to design targeted policies and improve population health management.
“Data driven insights are the foundation for smarter healthcare policies and better public health outcomes.”
