The Government of India has sanctioned ₹311 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) for establishing an AIIMS-like super speciality hospital in Mandya district, Karnataka. Proposed by Union Minister and local MP H.D. Kumaraswamy, the project aims to provide advanced 24/7 care including emergency, trauma, cancer, and cardiac treatments, serving Mandya and neighboring districts.

Glimpse:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the ₹311 crore proposal on December 25-26, 2025, to build a state-of-the-art super speciality facility modeled on AIIMS standards. The hospital will feature round-the-clock services for critical care, addressing regional gaps in specialized treatment. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has requested 10 acres of land near the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, with potential upgrades to the existing Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) also under consideration.

In a significant development for healthcare in southern Karnataka, the Central Government has sanctioned ₹311 crore to establish an AIIMS-like super speciality hospital in Mandya district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally approved the proposal, submitted by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy who represents the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

This new facility will offer comprehensive, round-the-clock super speciality services mirroring those at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), including 24/7 emergency and trauma care, advanced treatments for cancer, cardiac diseases, neurology, and other critical conditions. It is expected to serve not only Mandya but also patients from adjoining districts like Tumakuru, Ramanagara, and Mysuru, reducing the burden on distant urban centers.

Kumaraswamy has urged the Karnataka government to allocate 10 acres of land near the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway for optimal accessibility. Additionally, the State Health Department has explored constructing a hi-tech hospital at the existing Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) premises to complement the new project.

This sanction addresses longstanding demands for upgraded healthcare infrastructure in the region, where access to specialized treatments has been limited. The project aligns with national efforts to decentralize advanced medical facilities and enhance equitable care delivery.

“This AIIMS-like super speciality hospital will bring world-class treatment facilities to Mandya and surrounding areas, ensuring timely care for critical illnesses.”
