TCS has announced a strategic collaboration with SINTEF one of Europe’s largest independent research foundations to apply Social AI within SINTEF’s SMILE platform, enabling older adults to live more independently and safely at home.

Glimpse:

The partnership will enhance the SMILE (Smart Inclusive Living Environments) platform by integrating AI-driven communication, reminders, social-engagement tools and caregiver-connections tailored for senior citizens. TCS will bring its AI deployment know-how and SINTEF its research and domain expertise to deliver scalable solutions for ageing populations.

Mumbai & Oslo Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into a significant collaboration with SINTEF to develop and scale AI-enabled solutions for elderly care. The initiative builds on SINTEF’s eHealth platform,  which helps seniors live independently by facilitating communication with family, caregivers and peers, delivering reminders for medications or appointments, and supporting social engagement.

Under the agreement, TCS will apply its deep domain expertise in AI, digital healthcare and large-scale transformation to enhance SMILE with “Social AI” capabilities  enabling personalised care journeys based on each individual’s lifestyle, habits and needs. SINTEF will contribute its research infrastructure and experience in technology for ageing populations.

While the first focus is on elderly care, the partnership has outlined a broader vision that includes smart mobility, inclusive communities and energy solutions positioning the work at the convergence of health, living environments and digital innovation. The collaboration underscores the growing imperative for tech-driven solutions in the face of ageing populations, rising healthcare costs and the need for home-based care models.

Key to success will be scaling from pilot environments to real-world deployment, ensuring usability for seniors, protecting data privacy, integrating with existing healthcare ecosystems and achieving measurable improvements in quality of life.

“Together with SINTEF, we’re excited to turn research and technology into real solutions enabling seniors to live independently, safely and connected for longer.”
