TPHDA Presses for In-service Doctors’ Local Status in NEET PG Admissions

The Telangana Public Health Doctors Association (TPHDA) has petitioned the Health Minister to classify in-service doctors as “local candidates” in NEET PG, even if their MBBS education was outside the state, to protect their career progression.

Glimpse:

In a recent meeting with the Health Minister, TPHDA argued that doctors appointed through local quotas should be considered locals in postgraduate admissions, regardless of where they studied. Some in-service doctors reportedly lost local status under current rules, affecting their eligibility in NEET PG.

A delegation from Telangana’s Public Health Doctors Association met with the state Health Minister demanding changes to the application of local status in NEET PG admissions. Many doctors selected under the local category claim they are now disqualified from being treated as locals simply because they attended MBBS outside Telangana.

TPHDA’s president, Dr. Kathi Janardhan, emphasized fairness in policy: these doctors serve in Telangana under local quotas and should not be penalized for education logistics. The Health Minister responded positively and agreed to consult with relevant authorities to explore policy amendments.

“If you hire me as local, you can’t penalize me years later for studying elsewhere.”
