In a tragic development, Ambika Vishwakarma, a 4-year-old from Kakai Bhilwa village in Chhindwara, died in a Nagpur hospital due to severe poisoning linked to Coldrif syrup. She had been given the medication for fever and cough and later developed multi-organ failure. Her siblings who used the same bottle survived.
This brings the total confirmed deaths tied to the syrup to 24. Authorities have identified the implicated batch number (13) and noted that her treatment exceeded ₹13 lakh, of which the state government has pledged to cover half.
Law enforcement is further intensifying investigations into Sresan Pharmaceuticals, the syrup’s manufacturer. Officials are coordinating cross-state data sharing, record audits, and supply chain tracing. The case underscores the urgent need for swift regulatory reforms and legal accountability.
