A new state-of-the-art Mother and Child Health (MCH) Block at the Government General Hospital (GGH), Government General Hospital Kakinada is scheduled to be inaugurated on June 18, with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu confirming his participation in the event.

The five-storey healthcare facility, developed at a total cost of ₹98 crore, was made possible through a collaborative effort between the government and the alumni of Rangaraya Medical College Alumni of North America.

According to Dr. Achanta Subbaraya Choudhary, the project was largely driven by generous alumni contributions, complemented by government support. He recently held discussions with Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav regarding inauguration arrangements and related preparations.

Of the total expenditure, ₹70 crore was allocated for construction, with alumni contributing ₹60
crore through donations. Nearly 125 former medical students, who graduated between 1958 and 2002, collectively supported the initiative. The government further contributed ₹11 crore towards construction and ₹27 crore for advanced medical equipment.

The newly constructed MCH block has a capacity of 465 beds and is equipped with modern
healthcare infrastructure, including a dedicated neonatal care floor featuring advanced laminar flow
systems.

Officials stated that the facility is expected to provide high-quality maternal and child healthcare services free of cost, significantly benefiting economically weaker sections and middle-income families. The initiative stands as a testament to the enduring commitment of medical alumni toward public healthcare and reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure
across Andhra Pradesh.
