Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the Sanjeevani digital health records system, tested in a pilot at Kuppam, will be expanded to cover the entire state within one year, transforming public healthcare through integrated technology and preventive care.
Glimpse:
Under the Sanjeevani project backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and guided by national and international experts the government plans to create digital health profiles for all citizens, using AI and data insights to track disease patterns and strengthen preventive health delivery across Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh is set to expand its digital health records system across the entire state within the next year, following the success of the Sanjeevani pilot initiative in Kuppam, Chittoor district. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Sanjeevani project supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and guided by a 10-member expert advisory group will now transition from a localized pilot to a comprehensive statewide rollout. The goal is to digitize health information for every resident and harness that data to improve preventive care, reduce disease burdens, and enhance healthcare outcomes throughout Andhra Pradesh.
The expanded system will compile digital health records, including medical histories, diagnostics, treatments, immunisation data and more, to create personalised health risk profiles for citizens. This database is expected to support clinicians in making faster and more informed decisions, reduce redundant testing, and allow continuous health monitoring especially in public health settings. Emphasis is being placed on AI-enabled analysis, which will help identify patterns in conditions like diabetes, hypertension, chronic diseases and other prevalent health challenges, guiding targeted interventions and policy planning.
During a high-level review meeting at the state secretariat, Naidu outlined the plan to build a future-ready health ecosystem by integrating digital tools with preventive health strategies. The expert team advising the government includes national and international health leaders who will support implementation, evaluation and monitoring. The state also intends to showcase its digital health strategy at the upcoming Global AI Convention, underlining Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to set new standards in technology-driven healthcare governance.
In addition to creating statewide health records, officials said the system’s AI capabilities will help the government prioritise early detection, preventive care, and efficient resource allocation, potentially reducing overall healthcare costs and improving care quality across urban and rural communities.
“By digitising health records for every citizen, we are empowering better decision-making, strengthening preventive care, and ensuring that healthcare delivery is more efficient, equitable and responsive.”
