The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched an AI-enabled health chatbot to provide citizens with instant access to healthcare information, services and guidance marking a significant step in digitally transforming Mumbai’s public health system.

Glimpse:

The new chatbot uses artificial intelligence to answer health queries, assist with government health program navigation and connect users to BMC services  helping residents access accurate, reliable information without needing in-person visits.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced a digital health chatbot designed to empower citizens of Mumbai with quick and reliable health information, simpler access to public health services and real-time support for common health queries. The initiative is part of BMC’s broader mission to modernise its healthcare delivery system and leverage technology to enhance public engagement.

The chatbot powered by artificial intelligence and natural language understanding  can assist users in multiple regional languages, offering answers on topics such as disease symptoms, vaccination schedules, maternal and child health guidance, and public health program details. Citizens can interact with the chatbot via BMC’s official digital platforms, receiving personalised responses without the need for long waits, physical visits or phone calls.

According to BMC officials, the tool aims to reduce pressure on frontline health workers and call centres by handling routine health queries efficiently while directing users to the right services when needed. The chatbot also provides information on civic health initiatives, nearby health facility locations, emergency support options and preventive care advice building an accessible first step in citizens’ health journeys.

The digital health assistant marks a growing trend among urban health systems to integrate AI solutions that improve responsiveness, expand reach and strengthen preventive health communication. Municipal leadership emphasised that this technology will support better health literacy among residents and help optimise resource allocation by automating high-volume informational tasks.

“This AI health chatbot brings vital healthcare information closer to every resident, making public health more accessible, responsive and citizen-friendly.”
