Medtronic Brings Smart Brain Tech to India: A Game Changer for Parkinson’s Care

Global medtech leader Medtronic has launched its advanced Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation (aDBS) system in India, offering real time, personalized treatment for Parkinson’s disease patients.

Glimpse:

Medtronic has introduced its Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation system in India, a next generation therapy that automatically adjusts brain stimulation based on real time neural signals. The innovation aims to improve symptom control and quality of life for Parkinson’s patients, a condition affecting millions globally and a significant population in India.

In a major advancement for neurological care in India, Medtronic has launched its Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation (aDBS) system designed specifically for patients living with Parkinson’s disease. This cutting edge technology represents an evolution of traditional deep brain stimulation, which has been used for decades to manage movement related symptoms such as tremors and stiffness.

Unlike conventional systems that require manual adjustments, the new aDBS technology uses BrainSense™ a sensing enabled platform to monitor brain activity continuously and automatically adjust stimulation levels in real time. This “closed-loop” system allows therapy to respond dynamically to a patient’s changing neurological signals and daily activities.

India carries nearly 10% of the global Parkinson’s disease burden, making this launch particularly significant for the country’s healthcare landscape. The disease is progressive and affects not only movement but also sleep, communication, and overall quality of life.

By delivering personalized and adaptive therapy, the system aims to provide better symptom control, reduce side effects, and minimize the need for frequent manual adjustments. Experts believe this innovation could redefine how Parkinson’s disease is managed in clinical and everyday settings.

The technology builds on Medtronic’s earlier FDA-approved system, marking one of the largest commercial uses of brain computer interface based therapy globally.

“Adaptive deep brain stimulation represents a new era of personalized therapy one that responds in real time to a patient’s needs.”
