Evernorth has announced a major expansion of its behavioral care provider network, growing to 5,000 clinicians nationwide and outlining plans to reach 15,000 by the end of 2026 a strategic move to enhance access to mental health services across the United States.
Glimpse:
The expansion underscores Evernorth’s commitment to meeting rising demand for behavioral and mental health services, improving access and continuity of care, and strengthening integrated support through digital and in-person care models.
Evernorth, a health services company affiliated with UnitedHealth Group, has significantly increased the size of its behavioral care provider network to 5,000 clinicians, therapists, psychiatrists and mental health specialists nationwide. The organisation has also announced ambitious plans to grow this network further, with a goal of 15,000 participating providers by the end of 2026.
This expansion aims to address ongoing shortages in mental health access by broadening the availability of both in-person and virtual behavioral healthcare options. Evernorth’s network now connects members with a more diverse range of specialists across anxiety, depression, substance use support, therapy, psychiatry and other behavioral health services helping to shorten wait times and improve continuity of care.
According to Evernorth leadership, the expanded clinician network will support a more coordinated approach to behavioral health by integrating services across primary care, digital treatment tools and care navigation systems. This alignment is designed to help patients access the right level of care at the right time, whether they are seeking preventive support, ongoing therapy, or acute psychiatric care.
The initiative also reflects increased demand for mental health services that has grown substantially in recent years. Barriers to access such as provider shortages, insurance limitations and regional disparities have prompted health systems and insurers to prioritise scalable networks that can meet needs across urban, suburban and rural populations.
Evernorth’s expansion strategy includes investments in technology-enabled care models that combine virtual consultations, digital therapeutic tools and data-informed care management. These tools are aimed at enhancing patient engagement, facilitating smoother care journeys and providing clinicians with insights that support personalised, evidence-based interventions.
With the goal of reaching 15,000 behavioral care providers by 2026, Evernorth is positioning itself as a major catalyst in the broader effort to strengthen mental health infrastructure and reduce barriers to care across the United States.
“Expanding our behavioral care network reflects our mission to make mental health services more accessible, equitable and integrated helping people get the right care when they need it most.”
