MultiCare Health System, a major nonprofit healthcare provider based in Tacoma, Washington, has finalized a partnership with Ambience Healthcare to deploy its AI platform enterprise-wide for ambient documentation, coding, and clinical workflows. The announcement, made in early February 2026, follows one of the most thorough head-to-head evaluations of ambient AI technologies conducted in healthcare, spanning 2025 and engaging more than 550 clinicians from over 20 specialties.
The evaluation used a standardized framework assessing patient experience, clinician satisfaction, administrative efficiency, and financial impact. Ambience Healthcare emerged as the clear winner, delivering significantly better outcomes than competitors. Key pilot results included a Net Promoter Score 63 points higher than the next-best solution, a 33% reduction in total documentation time, a 38% decrease in after-hours charting (often called “pajama time”), a 17% increase in face-to-face patient time, and utilization in 81% of patient visits across diverse specialties. Adoption reached 92% among participants, underscoring strong clinician preference.
Ambience’s platform stands out for its ambient listening that generates complete, coding-ready notes in real time, while intelligently capturing clinical complexity to support accurate coding and revenue capture. This dual focus on documentation efficiency and coding integrity through features like real-time HCC opportunity surfacing and E/M level guidance was a decisive factor for MultiCare.
The enterprise rollout will extend the solution to approximately 1,500 clinicians across the health system, integrating seamlessly with major EHRs like Epic. By reducing administrative burden and burnout a major driver of clinician attrition the initiative aims to improve overall care quality, patient interactions, and operational sustainability.
MultiCare emphasized evidence-based selection over vendor hype, with the decision driven directly by frontline clinician feedback and proven ROI, including productivity gains and better risk adjustment documentation.
“We weren’t interested in hype. We wanted proof of technology that could truly help our physicians, APPs and patients. Ambience didn’t just perform well, it was the clear favorite among our clinicians. When your front line staff overwhelmingly chooses a solution because it makes care better and their work easier, that’s where you invest.”
