The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (TIMS) is set to launch a fully digital Electronic Hospital Management Information System (e-HMIS). The new platform will replace fragmented legacy systems with a unified, ABDM-compliant digital backbone for patient records, OPD/IPD workflows, billing, inventory, and analytics aiming to eliminate paper processes, reduce wait times, and improve care coordination across TIMS facilities.
Glimpse:
The e-HMIS integrates real-time EHRs, appointment scheduling, telemedicine modules, AI-assisted triage, automated lab/radiology reporting, and revenue cycle management. Built with cloud infrastructure and strong security features, it supports multilingual interfaces and seamless data exchange under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission standards. The rollout will begin at TIMS Hyderabad with phased expansion to other units, targeting paperless operations, faster billing, and better resource utilization.
The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (TIMS), the stateโs premier public super-specialty healthcare network, is preparing to launch a comprehensive, fully digital Electronic Hospital Management Information System (e-HMIS). The initiative marks a major leap in digitizing public-sector hospital operations in Telangana and aligns with the stateโs vision of becoming a leader in digital health.
The e-HMIS platform will serve as a single source of truth for patient care across TIMS facilities, replacing manual registers, disparate software modules, and paper-based workflows. Core modules include:
Patient registration & unique ABHA linkageย enabling longitudinal digital records OPD/IPD & emergency workflowsย real-time appointment booking, queue management, and bed tracking Clinical documentationย structured EHRs with templates, voice notes, and AI-assisted note generation Diagnostics & pharmacy integrationย automated lab/radiology orders, result reporting, and e-prescriptions Revenue & billing automationย insurance verification, cashless claims, and transparent billing Analytics & dashboardsย real-time insights for administrators on occupancy, revenue, disease trends, and resource utilization Telemedicine & remote monitoringย built-in virtual consultation and follow-up capabilities
The system is ABDM-compliant, supports secure data sharing via FHIR APIs, and incorporates multilingual interfaces (Telugu, English, Urdu) to serve diverse populations. Security features include role-based access, audit trails, encryption, and compliance with DPDP Act guidelines.
The launch will begin at TIMS Hyderabad (the flagship facility) with phased rollout to other TIMS units and affiliated hospitals. Training programs for doctors, nurses, and administrative staff are already underway to ensure smooth transition and high adoption.
Officials highlighted that the e-HMIS will significantly reduce patient wait times, eliminate duplicate testing, prevent revenue leakage, and improve overall care quality particularly in high-volume public hospitals. The project is funded through state health allocations and supported by technical partners experienced in large-scale ABDM implementations.
This move reinforces Telanganaโs leadership in digital health transformation and sets a benchmark for public-sector hospital digitization in India.
โA fully digital hospital is no longer a vision it is a necessity for delivering faster, safer, and more equitable care. e-HMIS will be the backbone of that transformation at TIMS.โ
