The National Health Authority (NHA) has announced a national level hackathon to invite AI-powered solutions that can significantly speed up claim processing under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The hackathon aims to reduce settlement time, minimise claim rejections, and improve overall efficiency of the world’s largest government funded health insurance scheme.

Glimpse:

Participants will be challenged to build AI tools for automated document verification, fraud detection, intelligent triage of claims, predictive analytics for faster approvals, and seamless integration with the existing PM-JAY IT system. The initiative is expected to attract developers, startups, and tech professionals from across the country.

The Indian government has launched a national hackathon to harness artificial intelligence for improving the claims settlement process under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The move is aimed at addressing long standing challenges such as delayed payments, high claim rejection rates, and manual bottlenecks that currently affect the smooth functioning of the scheme.

The hackathon will focus on developing AI-driven solutions in key areas including automated verification of hospital documents, intelligent fraud and anomaly detection, predictive analytics to flag high-risk claims, and smart triage systems that can prioritise and fast-track genuine claims. Selected solutions are expected to be integrated into the PM-JAY ecosystem to make the claims process faster, more transparent, and less prone to errors.

Ayushman Bharat is currently the world’s largest publicly funded health assurance scheme, covering over 55 crore beneficiaries. Even small improvements in claims processing efficiency can translate into faster reimbursements for hospitals and better access to cashless treatment for millions of families.

This hackathon reflects the government’s push to leverage emerging technologies like AI to strengthen digital health infrastructure and enhance the overall performance of flagship health programmes.

“We are inviting the best minds in AI and technology to help us build smarter, faster, and more efficient systems for Ayushman Bharat. The goal is to ensure every genuine claim is processed quickly and accurately.”
