The National Health Authority (NHA) has launched the NHA Digital Academy to build a skilled, future ready healthcare workforce through structured digital learning, training, and certification aligned with India’s expanding digital health ecosystem.

Glimpse:

Announced in April 2026 during a national Chintan Shivir, the NHA Digital Academy is a web-based learning platform offering e-learning modules, virtual training, workshops, and certifications. The initiative aims to support capacity building across stakeholders involved in Ayushman Bharat and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), helping standardize knowledge and improve implementation nationwide.

The National Health Authority (NHA) has launched the NHA Digital Academy as a major step toward strengthening India’s healthcare workforce and supporting the country’s rapidly evolving digital health ecosystem. The initiative is designed to build capacity across healthcare professionals, administrators, and program implementers involved in national health schemes.

The Digital Academy functions as a comprehensive web based Learning Management System (LMS), offering a one-stop platform for training and development needs linked to flagship programs such as Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

Through the platform, users can access self paced e-learning modules, participate in live virtual classrooms, and attend workshops that enable collaboration and knowledge exchange. The system also allows tracking of individual progress aligned with program indicators, ensuring structured learning and accountability.

A key strength of the initiative lies in its collaborative approach. The academy brings together academic institutions, research organizations, and centres of excellence at both national and international levels to co-develop high quality training content tailored to different roles within the healthcare ecosystem.

The launch comes at a time when India’s healthcare system is undergoing rapid digital transformation, driven by large scale initiatives like AB PM-JAY and ABDM. As these programs expand, the demand for a skilled workforce capable of managing digital infrastructure, data systems, and policy implementation has increased significantly.

At the launch, NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal highlighted capacity building as a key strategic priority, emphasizing the role of the Digital Academy in standardizing knowledge dissemination and strengthening program execution across states.

The initiative also aligns with broader national efforts to integrate advanced technologies such as AI, data analytics, and digital platforms into healthcare delivery. By equipping professionals with the necessary skills, the academy is expected to play a central role in shaping a more efficient, scalable, and technology driven healthcare system in India.

Overall, the NHA Digital Academy represents a foundational step in building a future-ready healthcare workforce, ensuring that India’s digital health ambitions are supported by trained and capable professionals across the ecosystem.

“Capacity building through the Digital Health Academy is a key strategic priority.”
