Terumo India & AIG Hospitals Launch Centre of Excellence to Advance Interventional Radiology Training

Terumo India has partnered with AIG Hospitals to establish a Centre of Excellence for Interventional Radiology, aimed at enhancing clinician training and expanding access to minimally invasive treatments.

Glimpse:

Announced in April 2026, Terumo India signed an MoU with AIG Hospitals to launch a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Interventional Radiology under its “Elevate IR” programme. The initiative will provide structured, simulation based training and hands on learning to improve clinical skills and patient outcomes.

In a major step toward strengthening minimally invasive healthcare in India, Terumo India has partnered with AIG Hospitals to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Interventional Radiology (IR). The collaboration is part of Terumo’s flagship “Elevate IR” programme, aimed at advancing clinical expertise and improving patient outcomes.

The initiative is designed to address growing demand for image guided, minimally invasive procedures, which are increasingly used to treat conditions such as vascular diseases, cancers, and critical emergencies. By improving clinician training, the programme aims to reduce procedural risks and enhance treatment effectiveness.

As part of the collaboration, AIG Hospitals will serve as the first dedicated training centre, offering a structured learning pathway for interventional radiologists. The programme combines simulation based training, expert led sessions, and case based discussions to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real world clinical practice.

A key component of the training ecosystem is the Terumo India Skill Lab (TISL), which supports hands-on learning using advanced simulation tools. These include liver flow models and Mentice virtual simulators, allowing clinicians to practice complex procedures in a safe, controlled environment before performing them on patients.

The curriculum also includes specialized modules on vascular access, microcatheter navigation, aorto iliac interventions, and vascular closure techniques, ensuring comprehensive skill development across both basic and advanced IR procedures.

Leaders from both organizations emphasized that building a skilled ecosystem of interventional radiologists is critical as healthcare shifts toward safer, faster, and less invasive treatment approaches. Structured training programs like this are expected to improve access to high quality care across regions.

Overall, the initiative reflects a broader trend in healthcare toward capacity building and specialized training, ensuring that advanced medical technologies translate into better patient outcomes at scale.

“Better patient outcomes begin with how well clinicians are trained.”
