Hartford HealthCare (HHC) has partnered with clinical AI company K Health to introduce PatientGPT, a secure AI assistant embedded directly in the health systemโs patient portal and mobile app. Currently in limited beta, the tool uses patientsโ actual medical records to provide clear answers to basic health questions while safely connecting them to human care when needed.
Glimpse:
The partnership focuses on co-developing high science APIs, starting with the filing of a US Drug Master File (DMF) for a key pharmaceutical grade master coenzyme used in cellular energy, DNA repair, and ageing related processes. It also includes a pipeline of five APIs targeting central nervous system disorders, rare diseases, metabolic conditions, and neurological issues, with identified customers in the US and Europe.
Hartford HealthCare and K Health have jointly introduced PatientGPT, an innovative AI system designed to serve as a 24/7 bridge between patients and their clinical care team. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, PatientGPT is fully integrated into Hartford HealthCareโs patient portal and app, giving it secure access to each individualโs medical records. This allows the tool to deliver personalized, context-aware responses to everyday health questions while ensuring continuity with the patientโs actual healthcare providers.
Safety remains a top priority in the design. PatientGPT does not diagnose conditions or prescribe treatments. It operates through a coordinated multi-agent system that reviews outputs against established clinical guidelines to minimize errors or hallucinations. All patient data stays protected within Hartford HealthCareโs secure infrastructure and is not shared for training any external AI models. The tool is currently rolling out in a limited beta phase to a select group of adult patients in Connecticut.
This collaboration reflects a growing effort by health systems to implement AI responsibly embedding it directly within trusted clinical environments rather than relying on standalone consumer apps. By combining advanced AI with real medical records and direct links to care teams, PatientGPT aims to reduce patient confusion, improve engagement, and make digital health experiences more actionable and connected.
โThe question isnโt whether AI will shape healthcare, itโs about how we do it in a safe, transparent way, inside a health system that connects to your medical records and your care team.โ
