Insilico Medicine Strikes Up to $2.75 Billion AI Drug Discovery Deal with Eli Lilly

Insilico Medicine has signed a major global R&D collaboration with Eli Lilly worth up to $2.75 billion. The deal, announced on March 29, 2026, includes an upfront payment of $115 million, potential development, regulatory, and commercial milestones, plus tiered royalties. It grants Lilly exclusive worldwide rights to preclinical oral drug candidates generated by Insilico’s generative AI platform, Pharma.AI, across multiple therapeutic areas.

Glimpse:

Under the agreement, Insilico will license select preclinical stage AI-designed drug candidates to Lilly and collaborate on new research programs. The partnership builds on previous collaborations since 2023 and leverages Insilico’s end to end Pharma.AI platform for faster target identification and novel molecule design. This marks one of the largest AI-driven drug discovery deals to date and follows Insilico’s recent IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Insilico Medicine, a clinical stage biotechnology company specializing in generative artificial intelligence for drug discovery, has entered into a significant collaboration with pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly. The deal, valued at up to $2.75 billion, aims to accelerate the discovery and development of novel oral therapeutics using advanced AI technologies.

According to the terms announced on March 29, 2026, Insilico will receive an upfront payment of $115 million. The remaining value will come from development, regulatory, and commercial milestone payments, along with tiered royalties on future sales of any successfully commercialized products. Eli Lilly gains exclusive global rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize selected preclinical stage drug candidates discovered through Insilico’s proprietary Pharma.AI platform.

The Pharma.AI platform employs generative AI to handle the full drug discovery processΒ  from identifying disease targets and biomarkers to designing entirely new molecular structures. Unlike traditional methods that screen existing chemical libraries, this approach creates novel molecules tailored to specific biological needs. The two companies will also work jointly on new R&D programs, with Lilly selecting the therapeutic targets while combining Insilico’s AI capabilities with Lilly’s clinical development expertise.

This partnership reflects the growing confidence of big pharma in AI-powered drug discovery to shorten development timelines and explore innovative mechanisms. It expands on earlier collaborations between the two companies dating back to 2023 and comes shortly after Insilico’s IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. For Insilico, the deal validates its AI platform’s potential to deliver high value candidates across multiple disease areas.

β€œBy deploying frontier AI technologies that scale from biomarkers to life models, we can identify multi purpose targets driving multiple diseases at the same time.”
