The Madhya Pradesh government has presented its ₹23,747 crore budget for 2026-27, with a clear emphasis on scaling healthcare infrastructure and services. Key allocations target new medical colleges, hospital upgrades, diagnostic enhancements, rural health centres, and digital health integration to improve access and quality across urban and rural areas.

Glimpse:

The budget significantly increases health sector funding to support construction of new medical colleges, modernization of district hospitals, expansion of Ayushman Bharat facilities, procurement of advanced equipment, and recruitment of medical staff. It prioritizes maternal & child health, cancer care, cardiac services, and preventive programs, while integrating AI and telemedicine to strengthen last-mile delivery in underserved regions.

Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister presented the state’s ₹23,747 crore budget for fiscal year 2026-27, highlighting healthcare as one of the top priorities. The allocation reflects the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing gaps in medical infrastructure, workforce shortages, and access to specialized care particularly in rural, tribal, and backward districts.

Major healthcare highlights in the budget include: New medical colleges & nursing institutions  additional seats and facilities to boost doctor and nurse supply Upgradation of district & civil hospitals  new ICUs, modular OTs, dialysis units, and trauma centres Diagnostic & equipment modernization procurement of MRI, CT scanners, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and automated labs Rural & primary care strengthening expansion and refurbishment of PHCs, CHCs, and sub-centres with telemedicine hubs Specialized care focus dedicated funding for cancer care units, cardiac cath labs, and high-risk pregnancy management Digital & preventive health integration of AI tools for screening, disease surveillance, and teleconsultations under ABDM framework

The budget also includes incentives for doctors and specialists to serve in difficult areas, expanded Ayushman Bharat coverage, and nutrition & immunization programs to tackle malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases. Officials emphasized that the increased outlay will reduce patient referrals to metros like Bhopal, Indore, or Delhi, easing financial and logistical burdens on families.

This healthcare-focused budget aligns with Madhya Pradesh’s vision of accessible, affordable, and high-quality medical services for all residents, especially in tribal and remote regions, while supporting national goals under Ayushman Bharat and National Health Mission.

“Health is the foundation of progress. This budget ensures every citizen of Madhya Pradesh has access to modern, timely care no matter where they live.”
