Orlando Health, a major Florida based not for profit health system, has announced plans to acquire RMC Health System in Anniston, Alabama. The deal will integrate the 375-bed hospital and its associated facilities into Orlando Healthโ€™s growing Alabama Region, following the 2024 majority acquisition of Baptist Health in Birmingham.

Glimpse:

Announced on April 8, 2026, the acquisition is expected to close this fall, pending regulatory approvals. RMC Health System serves Northeast Alabama with a 375-bed medical center, outpatient services, and specialty practices. The move includes significant investments over the next five years in facilities, equipment, and technology, including implementation of a unified electronic health record system. Nearly 2,000 team members and 200 physicians will transition to Orlando Health while retaining their current titles, pay, and service years.

Orlando Health has revealed its intention to acquire RMC Health System, a not for profit healthcare network based in Anniston, Alabama. This strategic expansion will bring the 375-bed Regional Medical Center, along with its outpatient facilities and specialty practices, under the Orlando Health umbrella. Once the transaction closes this fall, RMC will officially join Orlando Healthโ€™s Alabama Region, which already encompasses Baptist Health following the 2024 majority stake purchase in Birmingham.

The acquisition comes after approvals from the RMC Board of Directors and the Anniston City Council. All current employees are set to transition seamlessly to Orlando Health on the first day, preserving their existing titles, compensation, and years of service. The combined entity will integrate nearly 2,000 team members and approximately 200 physicians across various specialties, many of whom have earned national recognition in areas such as cancer care, orthopedics, and maternity services.

Over the next five years, Orlando Health plans to make substantial investments to upgrade RMCโ€™s facilities, modernize equipment, and enhance technology infrastructure. A key priority includes rolling out a comprehensive electronic health record system to improve care coordination, streamline medical records, and deliver better patient experiences. These enhancements aim to position RMC as a stronger regional referral center, enabling residents of Northeast Alabama to receive high quality, comprehensive care closer to home without long distance travel.

This latest development builds on Orlando Healthโ€™s ongoing growth strategy in Alabama. The 2024 acquisition of Baptist Health added five hospitals, more than 1,700 licensed beds, 58 clinics, and over 6,100 team members to its portfolio. Leaders from both organizations expressed confidence that the partnership will accelerate service expansion, physician recruitment, and overall performance while fostering greater collaboration across the state.

โ€œWe look forward to partnering with RMCโ€™s dedicated staff and physicians to invest in services, grow strategically, and enhance patient care across the region.โ€
