SURGING SHE-SURGEONS - Dr Nikhila Pinjala, Vascular & Endovascular surgeon

Hello, everyone. I’m Dr. Nikhila Pinjala, a vascular and endovascular surgeon based at Apollo Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. I am honored to be the first female vascular surgeon in the entire Apollo network across India, working alongside my father, Dr. Pinjala Ramakrishna, in the first father-daughter duo in Vascular Surgery in our country.

Inspirations and Beginnings
My journey into Vascular Surgery was inspired by my father, a seasoned practitioner in the field. Vascular surgery, though a relatively new specialty, captivated me early on. My exposure to the world of surgery began at the age of eight, watching my father’s surgical videos aimed at refining techniques. This early exposure ignited a deep passion for surgery within me—a calling that transcends profession, a relentless pursuit of healing and restoring lives.

Challenges of a Female Surgeon
Navigating the waters of a traditionally male-dominated field, as a female vascular surgeon, comes with its challenges. Stereotypes and biases persist, yet they only fuel our commitment to breaking barriers. For women aspiring to a career in surgery, I encourage you to embrace your passion, believe in your capabilities, and surround yourself with positive influences, exceptional mentors, and supportive allies.

Empowering Future Generations
To create a community of empowerment, it’s crucial to build connections and establish networks. Challenges are not roadblocks but stepping stones, and your unique perspective and skills are assets. Be unapologetically ambitious and let your passion guide you through any adversity. The journey of a female surgeon may be demanding, but it is undeniably rewarding.

Paving the Way for Future Surgeons
As women in surgery, we must pave the way for future generations. Together, we can change the narrative and prove that passion, skill, and determination transcend gender. The challenges we face are part of a larger journey, and by supporting one another, we can ensure a brighter future for women in surgery. Thank you.
