Heart Attack Deaths Soar: 40% Rise in Under-30s, 75% Spike in Sudden Deaths


It's heartbreaking to hear about the untimely deaths of young startup founders in India, many of whom have been victims of cardiac arrests. The immense pressure, long working hours, and the constant struggle to keep their ventures afloat often take a severe toll on their physical and mental health. Below are some of the tragic losses:

1.    Pankhuri Srivastava, CEO and co-founder of Grabhouse, tragically passed away at 32 from a cardiac arrest in December 2021. She had launched Grabhouse, a home rental and roommate platform, in 2013, securing $13 million in funding. After its acquisition by Quikr, she went on to create a women-focused community startup, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurship.

2.    Ambreesh Murthy, co-founder and CEO of Pepperfry, tragically passed away at 51 from a cardiac arrest during a biking trip to Ladakh. He founded Pepperfry in 2012, building it into a $500 million-valued company by 2020. Known for his passion for biking and travel, his untimely death left a void in the entrepreneurial world.

3.    Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of Drums Food International and creator of the Epigamia brand, tragically passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest on December 21, 2024, at 42. Under his leadership, Epigamia rapidly expanded, reaching 20,000 retail touchpoints across 30 cities, leaving behind a remarkable entrepreneurial legacy.

4.    Rohan Malhotra, co-founder of Good Capital, passed away at 36 from a cardiac arrest on October 1, 2024. Along with his brother Arjun, Rohan had previously founded Investopad, investing in startups like Little Black Book, Meesho, and simsim, which was acquired by Google. His untimely death marked a significant loss to the investment community.

5.    Rudratej Singh, former Global President of Royal Enfield, passed away at 46 from a cardiac arrest while exercising at home in 2020. Under his leadership, Royal Enfield's market share grew from 3.3% in 2014 to 6.9% in 2018. He later became President and CEO of BMW India, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and innovation.

6.    Amit Banerji, founder, Chairman, and CEO of Table Space, tragically passed away from a cardiac arrest on January 6, 2025, at 44. He had built Table Space into a major managed workplace provider since its inception in 2017, serving over 500 clients, including giants like Apple and Google. His untimely death marked a loss to the business world.

Heart attack deaths have surged in India, with a 40% rise in those under 30, from 2,371 in 2018 to 3,329 in 2022. For those over 30, fatalities grew from 23,392 to 29,081. Overall, 'sudden deaths' have doubled since 2012, with heart attacks contributing to a 75% increase in casualties. So everyone from every field & everyone of every role shall take responsibility of theirs & their lovely ones as well.
