Tata Elxsi has established a dedicated Global Offshore Development Centre (ODC) in partnership with Terumo Corporation, a leading Japanese medical device company, to accelerate the development of next-generation cardiac and vascular technologies. The ODC will serve as a strategic innovation hub combining Tata Elxsi’s engineering expertise with Terumo’s clinical domain knowledge to speed up R&D, product design, software development, and regulatory compliance for advanced interventional devices and digital health solutions.

Glimpse:

The Tata Elxsi-Terumo Global ODC will focus on co-creating cutting-edge products in areas like coronary intervention, structural heart, peripheral vascular therapies, and AI-enabled imaging/diagnostics. It will leverage Tata Elxsi’s strengths in digital engineering, AI/ML, simulation, and embedded systems alongside Terumo’s global market leadership and clinical insights. The centre is expected to shorten development timelines, reduce costs, enhance innovation velocity, and support faster regulatory submissions for both companies’ pipelines in high-growth cardiovascular markets.

Tata Elxsi, a global leader in design and technology services, has launched a dedicated Global Offshore Development Centre (ODC) in collaboration with Terumo Corporation, the renowned Japanese medical device giant specializing in cardiac and vascular solutions. The partnership, formalized through a multi-year strategic agreement announced on February 27, 2026, establishes a co-located innovation hub where Tata Elxsi engineers work closely with Terumo’s R&D teams to accelerate the development of next-generation interventional technologies and digital health tools.

The ODC will serve as a full-spectrum engineering and innovation engine, covering product conceptualization, advanced simulation, software development (including embedded systems and AI/ML algorithms), hardware-software integration, usability engineering, and regulatory pathway support for global markets. Key focus areas include coronary and peripheral interventions, structural heart devices, endovascular therapies, perfusion systems, and AI-powered imaging/diagnostic platforms that enhance precision and patient outcomes in cardiovascular procedures. By combining Tata Elxsi’s expertise in digital engineering, cloud-native architectures, and AI-driven design with Terumo’s deep clinical domain knowledge and global commercialization reach, the partnership aims to significantly shorten time-to-market for breakthrough products.

The initiative is expected to drive substantial innovation velocity, reduce development costs through offshore efficiencies, and improve regulatory compliance by embedding quality and risk management early in the design process. Initial projects already underway include next-gen catheter technologies, advanced stent delivery systems, and AI-enhanced visualization tools for interventional cardiology. The ODC will also support Terumo’s sustainability goals through eco-friendly design practices and digital twin simulations that minimize physical prototyping.

Tata Elxsi leadership highlighted that the collaboration reflects the growing convergence of engineering services and medtech innovation, particularly in high-precision fields like cardiovascular devices where speed, accuracy, and regulatory excellence are paramount. For Terumo, the ODC provides access to Tata Elxsi’s large talent pool in India, robust digital capabilities, and cost-effective scaling while maintaining Japanese-quality standards. The partnership is structured for long-term collaboration, with phased expansion planned as new product lines and technologies mature.

This strategic alliance strengthens India’s position as a global hub for medtech R&D and engineering services while reinforcing Terumo’s commitment to innovation in cardiovascular care. The ODC is already operational with joint teams in place, and both companies have expressed optimism about delivering impactful advancements that improve patient outcomes worldwide.

β€œThis ODC is more than a development centre it’s a strategic innovation engine that combines the best of Japanese clinical excellence with Indian digital engineering prowess to create life-changing cardiovascular technologies faster than ever before.”
