During his visit to the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam, Union Minister Piyush Goyal launched a next-gen MRI manufacturing facility and a cath lab production unit, underlining India’s push toward self-reliance in high-end medical devices.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated two major projects at AMTZ 3i MedTech, a next-gen MRI manufacturing initiative, and a new catheterisation laboratory (Cathlab) production facility by Innovation Imaging Technologies Pvt Ltd (IITPL). He praised AMTZ’s role in driving affordable, high-quality medical device innovation and called the facility a cornerstone of India’s “Make in India” med-tech ambitions.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal visited the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam to inaugurate two groundbreaking facilities: the 3i MedTech MRI manufacturing unit and a Cathlab production facility by Innovation Imaging Technologies Pvt Ltd (IITPL). The 3i MedTech venture, developed in close partnership with AMTZ, aims to deliver advanced, cost-effective MRI systems designed for precision diagnostics and broader patient access. Meanwhile, the new cath lab unit strengthens India’s capacity to produce cardiac imaging devices domestically, reducing dependence on imports.

Goyal lauded the leadership of Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD and Founder-CEO of AMTZ, for building a robust and globally competitive MedTech manufacturing ecosystem. He pointed to AMTZ’s speed and affordability in medical device production as a key enabler of India’s self-reliance in healthcare technology. The 270-acre AMTZ campus already hosts more than 150 companies working across the spectrum from basic protective equipment to sophisticated imaging machines.

During the visit, several important MoUs were signed to deepen collaboration between AMTZ and academic and health institutions. Partnerships were announced with bodies like the Artificial Limb Centre, NIEPID, and the Kalam Institute of Health Technology, aiming to foster research, skill development, and translational innovation. Goyal emphasized that such collaboration is critical for nurturing homegrown MedTech startups and accelerating the journey from lab to market.

The minister’s remarks also reflected a broader vision: that India’s MedTech sector is poised not just for domestic growth but for global impact. He highlighted the “Make in India, Make for the World” ambition, urging the industry to embrace self-reliance, scale, and innovation. His visit reinforced AMTZ’s role as a keystone in India’s healthcare manufacturing future, blending research, production, and export capacity under one roof.

“India is no longer just a MedTech buyer we’re building the capabilities to lead and export globally. Our strength lies in innovation, scale, and affordability.”
