Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Bhagalpur Introduces AI-Based Digital Pathology System for Faster Blood Test Analysis

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College & Hospital (JLNMC) in Mayaganj, Bhagalpur, Bihar has become the first government hospital in the state to implement an AI-powered digital pathology system for blood testing. The system automates sample tracking, digital analysis, and result delivery, significantly reducing manual effort and turnaround time.

Glimpse:

Blood samples are now logged with a unique test identification number and processed digitally using AI, eliminating the need for manual handling by lab staff. Results are recorded electronically and made available to doctors on screens instantly. Patients receive reports via text message, while records are stored digitally for easy future access. The initiative is being viewed as a potential model for other government hospitals across Bihar.

Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College & Hospital (JLNMC) in Bhagalpur has taken a major step towards modernising its laboratory services by introducing an artificial intelligence based digital pathology system for blood test analysis. This marks the first such implementation in any government hospital in Bihar and aims to streamline routine diagnostic workflows in the pathology department.

Under the new system, every blood sample is assigned a unique test identification number upon arrival. The sample is then logged into a computer system that tracks it through all stages of processing. AI technology analyses the samples digitally without requiring manual intervention by laboratory staff, enabling multiple samples to be handled simultaneously. Once analysis is complete, results are recorded in digital format and become immediately accessible to doctors through computer screens.

Patients benefit from faster report delivery, with results sent directly via text message. The digital storage of records also makes it easier to retrieve previous test history whenever needed. This reduces paperwork, minimises delays in getting test results, and allows clinicians to make quicker treatment decisions, especially in outpatient and emergency departments.

The AI system is expected to serve not only patients from Bhagalpur but also those from neighbouring districts. Hospital officials and health department representatives are closely monitoring its performance, with hopes that it can serve as a scalable model for upgrading pathology services in other government hospitals across the state.

โ€œThe AI-based system will reduce delays in getting test results and aims to reduce the time taken to complete reports and manual paperwork. Doctors can now use this information for faster treatment decisions.โ€
