India has showcased two breakthrough indigenous technologies Project Vimana and Project Operion developed by SS Innovations International to enable life saving robotic surgeries in remote, battlefield, and disaster zones. Project Vimana uses heavy lift autonomous drones to deliver compact robotic surgical systems to high-risk areas, while Project Operion is a fully mobile, zero footprint operating suite designed for rapid deployment.

Glimpse:

Unveiled at the SMRSC Global Robotic Surgery Conference in New Delhi, these innovations aim to bridge the critical β€œgolden hour” after injury. Project Vimana allows trauma surgeons to perform remote procedures like bleeding control and chest decompression from a command centre. Project Operion provides a deployable robotic operating room with 360-degree access and tele-surgery readiness. Both leverage the company’s SSI Mantra robotic platform and were highlighted by Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav.

India has taken a significant leap in battlefield and emergency medicine with the unveiling of Project Vimana and Project Operion, two futuristic robotic surgical systems developed by Gurgaon based SS Innovations International. The technologies were showcased at the SMRSC Global Robotic Surgery Conference held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Project Vimana is a revolutionary drone enabled surgical delivery system. It uses heavy lift autonomous drones to transport compact robotic arms equipped with advanced surgical instruments to forward combat zones or inaccessible locations. Trauma surgeons can then perform critical, time sensitive procedures remotely from a safe command centre using the SSI Mantra Surgeon Console. Key interventions include controlling bleeding, chest decompression, and removal of foreign objects procedures that can make the difference between life and death in the critical β€œgolden hour” after injury.

Complementing this is Project Operion, a fully mobile, platform agnostic operating suite engineered for rapid deployment. It features a zero footprint design with integrated robotics that provide 360-degree surgical access and real-time reconfiguration. The system is tele-surgery ready, allowing specialist surgeons to operate from anywhere, making it ideal for disaster zones, remote areas, military bases, or forward hospitals.

Both projects build on SS Innovations’ indigenous SSI Mantra robotic surgery platform, which has already been used successfully in complex procedures across cardiac, oncology, and urology specialties. The innovations represent a major step toward indigenous capability in robotic surgery, telemedicine, and AI-enabled healthcare delivery in challenging environments.

Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav, while inaugurating the showcase, praised the developments and noted that India is steadily emerging as a global leader in MedTech innovation.

β€œWith the showcase of our futuristic technologies like Project Vimana and Project Operion, we are reimagining how and where surgery can be delivered whether it is on the battlefield, in disaster zones, or in the most remote parts of the country.”
