Healthplus.ai Bags €2.3 M AI That Could Spot Post-Surgery Infections Before They Strike

Healthplus.ai has raised €2.3 million in a fresh funding round to expand its clinically-validated AI platform called PERISCOPE which analyses hospital data to predict which patients are at high risk of post-surgery infections. The platform aims to allow clinicians to intervene early, potentially reducing complications, shortening recovery times, and cutting hospital costs.

Glimpse:

The investment  led by Elevating Capital along with backing from LUMO Labs, ROM InWest, Pathena and Leistone  will help Healthplus.ai scale operations across Europe and the U.S., pursue regulatory approvals (including FDA clearance), integrate with major EHR systems, and expand its AI risk modelling to cover a broader range of perioperative complications.

Every year, hundreds of millions of patients worldwide undergo surgical procedures  and a large proportion face post-operative complications. Among these, infections remain the most common yet often go unnoticed until symptoms surface, sometimes days after surgery. This delay can lead to longer hospital stays, increased morbidity, and higher costs.

To tackle this, Dutch-based Healthplus.ai developed PERISCOPE  an AI-powered clinical decision-support tool that ingests data from electronic health records (EHRs) and runs predictive modeling to estimate each patient’s risk of post-surgery infection. The system categorizes patients into risk tiers (low, medium, high), allowing medical teams to prioritise monitoring, interventions, or preventive measures before infection takes hold.

In its latest funding round  raising €2.3 million  the company plans to use the funds to scale globally. The money will help Healthplus.ai gain regulatory approvals (for instance, FDA clearance for U.S. hospitals), build deeper integrations with leading EHR platforms (like Epic, Cerner, ChipSoft), and further refine and expand AI models to predict not only infections but a broader array of perioperative complications.

According to Healthplus.ai’s CEO (and co-founder) Dr. Bart Geerts, the goal goes beyond technology: “We aim to bring clinically validated, regulatory-approved AI into everyday hospital practice,” enabling surgeons, nurses and hospital IT teams to use data-driven insights to proactively safeguard patient health.

“By combining medical expertise with artificial intelligence, PERISCOPE helps hospitals predict and prevent infections before they even happen.”
