Launched initially in 2019 as a provider-to-provider hub-and-spoke telemedicine system, eSanjeevani pivoted in April 2020 to also include patient-to-doctor teleconsultations  enabling outpatient (OPD) services via smartphone or local health-centre interface. 

According to a written reply given by the Union Health Minister in Parliament, the platform has now completed more than 43 crore consultations as of November 23, 2025. The service is available across the entire country (all states & UTs), making tele-health accessible even in remote or underserved regions, potentially reducing travel burden and improving health equity. 

eSanjeevani’s integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission enables patients to link consultations with their digital health IDs (ABHA), store electronic health records, and share them seamlessly with providers  ensuring continuity of care.  According to health-policy analysts, this marks a significant strengthening of India’s digital health infrastructure  laying groundwork for scalable, interoperable and inclusive healthcare delivery systems. especially in rural and semi-urban areas, eSanjeevani is helping reduce pressure on physical hospitals and clinics  offering a scalable, low-cost way to expand access to expert care and specialist consultations across diverse geographies.
