Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in 75 districts across India are now equipped with advanced dialysis facilities and CT scan machines, enhancing primary healthcare access amid nationwide operationalization of over 1.82 lakh such centres.
Glimpse:
Highlighting progress at King George’s Medical University convocation in Lucknow, Nadda noted over 1.82 lakh operational Ayushman Arogya Mandirs delivering comprehensive services, AB-PMJAY covering 62 crore people (over 40% of population) with up to ₹5 lakh coverage, expansion from 1 to 23 AIIMS, and plans for 75,000 additional medical seats by 2029.
India’s primary healthcare network has reached a significant milestone, with Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in 75 districts now fully equipped with dialysis services and CT scan machines, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda revealed during the 21st annual convocation of King George’s Medical University in Lucknow.
These upgraded facilities bring critical diagnostic and treatment capabilities closer to communities, reducing the burden on tertiary hospitals and improving timely interventions for chronic conditions.
Nationwide, more than 1.82 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are operational, providing comprehensive primary healthcare including preventive, promotive, and curative services through strengthened sub-centres and primary health centres under the National Health Mission.
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) now covers over 62 crore beneficiaries (more than 40% of India’s population), offering cashless treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family annually.
Minister Nadda also highlighted exponential growth in medical infrastructure and education: from just one AIIMS at the turn of the century to 23 institutions today, with directives from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to add 75,000 undergraduate and postgraduate seats by 2029 over 23,000 already created in a single year.
These advancements underscore a holistic push toward accessible, equitable healthcare, with Ayushman Arogya Mandirs serving population clusters above 5,000 and tertiary facilities bolstered by additional ICU beds.
“Seventy-five districts now have dialysis and CT scan machines at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, delivering advanced care at the primary level.”
