Announced in April 2026, the Odisha government signed an MoU with Jhpiego to improve healthcare services, focusing on maternal and child health, nursing, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and emergency obstetric care. The collaboration emphasizes capacity building, policy support, and adoption of global best practices. Additionally, a parallel partnership with AIIMS Bhubaneswar aims to upgrade healthcare services in Rairangpur, including support for a new 100 bed facility.
In a significant move to strengthen public healthcare systems, the Odisha government has entered into a strategic partnership with Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services across the state.
The collaboration focuses on delivering world class healthcare in critical areas such as maternal and child health, nursing services, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and emergency obstetric care. Jhpiego will provide technical expertise, support evidence based policy planning, and assist in implementing global best practices tailored to Odisha’s healthcare needs.
A key component of the partnership is capacity building. The initiative will strengthen medical education and training systems, develop healthcare trainers, and promote the use of digital learning platforms and simulation based training. These efforts aim to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals and improve service delivery at multiple levels.
Alongside this collaboration, the state has also signed an MoU with AIIMS Bhubaneswar to enhance healthcare services in Rairangpur and surrounding districts such as Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. The partnership will support infrastructure upgrades, including the development of a new 100-bed hospital and the introduction of specialist outpatient services, medical camps, teleconsultations, and improved referral systems for critical cases.
The combined initiatives are expected to significantly improve access to specialized healthcare in underserved regions, reduce the burden on tertiary care centers, and bring advanced medical services closer to rural populations.
Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling highlighted that the partnership reflects a commitment to strengthening healthcare systems through innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning, addressing both existing gaps and emerging challenges in the sector.
