Stanford Health Care has entered into a strategic collaboration with Alameda Health System to enhance and expand clinical services at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California. The partnership aims to improve access to high quality specialized care closer to home for nearly 400,000 residents in central and southern Alameda County while strengthening the hospital’s long term operational stability.
Glimpse:
Announced in April 2026, the agreement builds on St. Rose Hospital’s affiliation with Alameda Health System in November 2024, which helped turn around its financial position. Key elements include Stanford physicians providing care at the skilled nursing facility, development of a community based inpatient medical psychiatric unit, leasing of medical surgical beds for Stanford managed services, and expansion of operating room capacity for Stanford surgeons and procedural specialists. The collaboration will also support community health initiatives through the AHS/St. Rose Foundation.
Stanford Health Care has joined hands with Alameda Health System to strengthen healthcare delivery at St. Rose Hospital, an independent non profit facility located in Hayward, California. This new partnership focuses on expanding access to advanced and specialized medical services for the local community while ensuring patients can receive high quality care without travelling long distances.
The collaboration comes after St. Rose Hospital became an affiliate of Alameda Health System in November 2024 amid earlier concerns about potential closure. Since then, the hospital has achieved financial stability and is now operating profitably. The alliance with Stanford Health Care is expected to further boost service utilization and bring additional clinical expertise to the East Bay region.
Under the agreement, Stanford Health Care physicians will provide care at the hospital’s skilled nursing facility, increasing options for rehabilitative services. Plans also include the creation of a community based inpatient medical psychiatric unit, leasing a portion of medical surgical beds to Stanford for high quality inpatient management, and expanding operating room capacity to accommodate Stanford surgeons and procedural specialists. These steps are designed to enhance the range and quality of services available at the community hospital.
The partnership will additionally support the AHS/St. Rose Foundation in advancing local health programs and community initiatives. Officials from both organizations have expressed confidence that the collaboration will reinforce St. Rose Hospital’s role as a vital healthcare provider for the diverse population of central and southern Alameda County.
“That means that patients here in this community can access Stanford-level care, Stanford level faculty, right here at home. And that’s really what we’re all about.”
