AI Boosts IVF Success, But Human Touch Remains Vital, Says Novartis Expert in Hyderabad

At the Fertygyaan 2025 conference in Hyderabad, reproductive medicine specialist Prof. Roy Homburg emphasized the role of AI in improving IVF outcomes but cautioned it cannot replace human empathy.

Glimpse:

AI tools, especially in embryo selection and lab optimization, are making strides in fertility treatment. However, Prof. Homburg reminded clinicians that patient trust, counselling, and emotional support remain irreplaceable in reproductive care.

During his visit to Hyderabad for the Fertygyaan 2025 conference, Prof. Roy Homburg a senior authority in reproductive medicine discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) is enhancing in vitro fertilization (IVF) workflows. From helping select viable embryos to optimizing lab conditions, AI is contributing to improved success rates in fertility clinics.

However, Prof. Homburg stressed that the technology must be paired with compassion. He argued that emotional support and clinician–patient rapport cannot be sidelined in fertility journeys. He also praised India’s Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) law for mandating licensed psychological counsellors to assist couples through emotional stressors tied to infertility.

He highlighted that nearly 20% of Indian women face polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), calling for more research into prenatal and lifestyle factors. He also pointed out that fertility significantly declines after age 37 urging couples not to delay too long.
