The meeting, which took place on April 9, 2026, highlighted India’s advancements in telemedicine and digital health infrastructure. It was shared via a social media post by MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. The visit coincided with Dr. Jayatissa serving as chief guest at the World Health Day 2026 event organized by the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office in New Delhi, themed ‘Together for health. Stand with science’, with emphasis on the ‘One Health’ approach.

Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, recently visited the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi to gain insights into India’s successful digital health programmes. During the briefing, officials from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the National Health Authority presented key initiatives aimed at expanding healthcare reach through technology.

The session focused particularly on the eSanjeevani telemedicine platform, which has enabled millions of remote consultations across India, and on innovative Health Kiosks that deliver essential services directly to underserved communities. These solutions are supported by India’s comprehensive digital health repository ecosystem, which helps improve data sharing, accessibility, and overall health outcomes. The briefing underscored how such tools can bridge gaps in healthcare delivery, especially in regions with limited infrastructure.

This engagement reflects growing cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in the health sector. Dr. Jayatissa also participated as chief guest in the World Health Day 2026 celebrations hosted by the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Regional Office in New Delhi. The event, themed ‘Together for health. Stand with science’, emphasized collaborative efforts and scientific progress to protect public health. Discussions highlighted the ‘One Health’ approach, which recognizes the links between human, animal, and environmental health, aligning with WHO’s goal of supporting nearly two billion people across the region through better policies and technical assistance.

The visit strengthens bilateral ties and opens possibilities for knowledge exchange that could help Sri Lanka adopt similar digital solutions to enhance its own healthcare system.

“Minister of Health and Mass Media of Sri Lanka, Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, visited Ministry of External Affairs for a briefing on India’s flagship digital health initiatives. C-DAC India and National Health Authority presented eSanjeevani and India’s last-mile healthcare access through Health Kiosks, supported by India’s robust digital health repository ecosystem.”
