Delhi to Add 70 More Arogya Ayushman Mandirs, Pushing Total Health Clinics Past 200

The Delhi government is expanding its primary healthcare infrastructure by launching 70 new Arogya Ayushman Mandirs this monthย  which will bring the total number of community health centres in the capital to over 200, strengthening neighbourhood-level care.

Glimpse:

With roughly 168 Arogya Ayushman Mandirs already operating, Delhi will inaugurate 70 more across 10 of its 11 districts, according to officials. These upgraded centres will convert or replace earlier mohalla clinics in permanent buildings, offer a broader range of services (OPD, diagnostics, maternal care, mental health), and aim to be the backbone of community healthcare.

The Delhi government announced on 20 November 2025 that it will open 70 new Arogya Ayushman Mandirs within the month, bringing the total number of these health centres in the city to more than 200. This move is part of a major scale-up of primary healthcare in the capitalย  the goal is for these Mandirs to become the โ€œbackbone of the community health system.โ€ย

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that the expansion is aimed at bringing โ€œquality primary care directly to peopleโ€™s neighbourhoodsโ€ so that no citizen is left behind due to cost or distance. The new clinics will be spread across 10 out of Delhiโ€™s 11 districts, including areas such as Sarai Kale Khan, Nehru Place, Okhla, Hauz Khas, Burari, and Jahangirpuri.

Unlike earlier mohalla clinics that often operated from rented premises, the government says it now has enough permanent space for these Mandirs. ย This means more stabilityย  both in terms of infrastructure and service delivery. These upgraded centres are expected to offer enhanced services: OPD consultations, free medicines, lab tests, maternal and child health care, elderly care, mental health support, and dental services.ย

The plan is ambitious: as part of its long-term strategy, Delhi aims to establish 1,139 Arogya Ayushman Mandirs by March 2026. According to officials, the aggressive expansion and infrastructure development are being fast-tracked so that these Mandirs can serve as first points of care for thousands of local residents.

โ€œWith these 70 new Arogya Ayushman Mandirs, we are taking quality primary healthcare directly to peopleโ€™s neighbourhoods no citizen should be left behind because of distance, cost, or lack of access.โ€
