Healthy Futures for All Ages: Rainbow Children’s Hospital Launches Adult Vaccination Initiative
Rainbow Children’s Hospital, a pioneer in Pediatric care in India, has taken a significant step into the realm of adult healthcare with the launch of AVON – Adult Vaccination Outreach Network. This initiative aims to vaccinate the adult population across the country. The launch event took place at the Sheraton Hyderabad on 28th July.
With a legacy of 25 years in delivering quality care to children and women, Rainbow Children’s Hospital is now extending its expertise to adult immunization. AVON will offer vaccines such as Influenza, HPV (Human Papillomavirus), Pneumococcal, and Shingles, which are vital in preventing severe infections and cancers.
The event was graced by esteemed personalities including Dr. Vikram Venkateswaran, Partner – Head, Deloitte India; Dr. Vijay Yeldandi, Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Disorders of the Immune System; Mr. Ratan Jalan, Founder & Managing Director, Medium Healthcare Consulting; and Dr. Aishwarya Paatapati, Miss Globe India 2023. They unveiled AVON and praised Rainbow Children’s Hospital’s efforts in advancing public health through this new initiative. The launch was followed by insightful panel discussions on "Protecting Adults from Preventable Diseases" and "Breaking Down Barriers to Adult Immunization."
Dr. Ramesh Kancharla, CMD of Rainbow Children’s Hospital, highlighted the importance of adult vaccination, citing the historical success of the smallpox vaccine by Dr. Edward Jenner. He emphasized the hospital's commitment to reducing the disease burden in India, noting that as immunity decreases with age, annual vaccinations are crucial. Dr. Kancharla stated, “Vaccinations are not just for your kids; they’re lifesavers for adults as well.”
The COVID-19 pandemic showcased Rainbow Children’s Hospital's dedication and efficiency in mass immunization. In response to widespread support from well-wishers, pharma companies, corporates, and the public, the hospital is proud to launch AVON in collaboration with Pfizer, Sanofi, and Serum Institute. This initiative aims to ensure a healthier future for citizens.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar Chirla, Director – Intensive Care Services, stressed the need for awareness, citing a study revealing that two-thirds of Indian adults are unaware of adult vaccination. He believes AVON will play a crucial role in educating and strengthening the adult population.
The event saw the participation of key figures such as Dr. Santosh Taur, Medical Director, Vaccines, Rare Disease & Digital, Pfizer; Ms. Pooja Daruwale, Medical Advisor, Sanofi DRL Vaccines; and Dr. Pramod Pujari, Clinical Research & Pharmacovigilance, Serum Institute, along with over 100 doctors and specialists.
