Himachal Pradesh Health Minister has directed swift procurement of advanced medical equipment to upgrade district hospitals, CHCs, and medical colleges. The call focuses on filling critical gaps in diagnostics, emergency care, and specialized services to improve treatment quality and reduce patient referrals outside the state.
Glimpse:
The minister emphasized urgent acquisition of high-end machines like CT/MRI scanners, ventilators, dialysis units, and modular OTs. The initiative aims to enhance rural and district-level care, cut out-of-state referrals, and align with national schemes like Ayushman Bharat. Officials have been tasked with fast-tracking tenders, ensuring quality standards, and prioritizing essential equipment for trauma, cardiology, oncology, and maternal health services.
Himachal Pradesh Health Minister has issued strong directives to accelerate the procurement of modern medical equipment across the state’s public healthcare network. In a high-level review meeting, the minister highlighted persistent shortages in key diagnostic and therapeutic tools that limit timely treatment in district hospitals, community health centres (CHCs), and government medical colleges.
Priority areas include installation of CT and MRI scanners in underserved districts, advanced ventilators and ICU beds for critical care, dialysis machines to expand nephrology services, modular operation theatres, high-resolution ultrasound systems, and cardiac cath lab equipment. The minister stressed that many patients are still referred to Chandigarh, Delhi, or private facilities due to missing infrastructure, leading to financial burden and delays.
The government plans to leverage central funding under schemes like PM-ABHIM and state allocations to fast-track purchases. Officials were instructed to finalize specifications, invite competitive bids, ensure compliance with quality certifications, and monitor installation timelines closely. Special attention was given to rural and tribal areas where access remains limited.
This push aligns with Himachalβs ongoing efforts to strengthen public health infrastructure, reduce out-of-pocket expenses for residents, and build self-reliance in secondary and tertiary care. The minister reiterated that timely equipment upgradation is essential for achieving universal health coverage goals and improving health outcomes statewide.
βModern equipment must reach every district hospital quickly no more sending patients outside for basic scans or procedures.β
