Infosys and NIMHANS Launch ‘Wellness Matters’ Manual to Boost Mental Health at Work

Infosys, in collaboration with NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences), has introduced a training manual titled “Wellness Matters Mental Health First Aider” aimed at enabling employees to identify early signs of mental distress, provide peer support, and connect colleagues with professional help.

Glimpse:

The manual addresses areas such as self-awareness, self-care, understanding mental-health conditions and addressing substance-use concerns. It uses a “training-of-trainers” model to cascade learning: Infosys has already trained its entire HR team in India as certified Mental Health First Aiders.

Bengaluru  Infosys, in partnership with NIMHANS, has launched the “Wellness Matters Mental Health First Aider Training Manual” to strengthen workplace mental wellness across its operations. The initiative is part of Infosys’s broader wellness philosophy under its HALE (Health Assessment & Lifestyle Enrichment) programme.

The training manual is designed to equip employees particularly HR professionals and wellness champions with the skills needed to recognise early indicators of mental distress, engage in peer-level support and facilitate timely connection to expert help. The curriculum covers self-care, mental-health literacy, basic counselling techniques and substance-use awareness.

Infosys has adopted a “train-the-trainer” model, in which selected individuals become certified Mental Health First Aiders and then cascade that training within their teams. As part of the rollout, Infosys has already certified its entire HR team in India, creating a first-line support network within the organisation.

The collaboration with NIMHANS draws on expertise from psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, public-health specialists and psychiatric social workers who co-developed the manual with Infosys’s wellness team. The launch reflects a growing recognition among large corporations in India of the importance of psychological safety, mental-health literacy and peer-driven care in the workplace.

With escalating stress levels, hybrid-work challenges and growing mental-health burdens among working populations, the initiative positions Infosys at the forefront of corporate mental-wellness interventions. The success of the manual and training model will depend on the extent of uptake, ongoing support, measurement of impact and integration into workplace culture.

“This training manual empowers employees to recognise early signs of distress, offer peer support and promote a psychologically safe and inclusive culture.”
