The expanded network of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will support preventive screenings, maternal and child health services, chronic disease management and basic diagnostics helping reduce patient load on tertiary hospitals and improving early care access.
The Government of Delhi has unveiled a significant expansion of its primary healthcare infrastructure by launching 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the city. This move is part of an ongoing effort to enhance community level health services, improve preventive care, and ensure that residents have access to essential medical support closer to home.
Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are community health hubs that provide a range of services including preventive health screenings, maternal and child care, immunisation, chronic disease monitoring, lifestyle counselling and basic diagnostics. These Mandirs act as first contact points for patients and are designed to reduce the reliance on tertiary care hospitals for conditions that can be managed at the primary care level.
Under the expansion plan, health officials have emphasised the importance of ensuring equitable healthcare access across all districts, with particular attention to areas with limited facilities. The new Mandirs will be equipped with basic medical equipment, digital health tools for record keeping and telemedicine capabilities to connect patients with specialists when needed.
The initiative also focuses on early disease detection and health promotion activities. Regular health camps, screening drives, nutritional counselling and awareness programmes will be conducted through the Mandirs to help residents manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and respiratory illnesses.
Healthcare administrators in the city said the expansion will help streamline service delivery and decongest major hospitals by providing preventive and routine care within community settings. Patients will benefit from reduced travel and wait times for basic health services, while health workers will be able to follow consistent care pathways using integrated digital health records.
Officials noted that the programme aligns with larger public health goals of promoting preventive care, strengthening grassroots health systems and improving overall health outcomes for Delhi’s diverse population.
“By opening 81 more Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, we are bringing preventive care and essential health services to every community making healthcare accessible, timely and people centric.”
