The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has uncovered the illegal sale of mephentermine sulphate injections, intended for medical use, to gym-goers in Secunderabad. This cardiac stimulant was being misused to enhance physical performance, posing serious health risks.

Glimpse:

In a recent operation, the DCA, in collaboration with Karkhana police, raided an unlicensed facility in Namalagundu, Secunderabad. They seized 66 vials of ‘Termin’ and ‘Termiva’ injections, which contain mephentermine sulphate. These injections were being sold illegally to gym-goers for bodybuilding purposes. The drugs, originally priced at โ‚น40 per vial, were being sold at inflated rates ranging from โ‚น1,000 to โ‚น5,000.

On October 17, 2025, officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA), along with the Karkhana police, conducted a raid at an unlicensed premises in Namalagundu, Secunderabad. The premises, owned by M. Naresh, were found to be illegally stocking and selling mephentermine sulphate injections ‘Termin’ and ‘Termiva’ to gym-goers for misuse in bodybuilding. These cardiac stimulant drugs are intended for medical use to treat hypotension, particularly during spinal anesthesia in surgical procedures. However, they were being sold at exorbitant prices, posing significant health risks to users.

The misuse of these injections can lead to severe cardiovascular disorders and, in extreme cases, may be fatal. Authorities also discovered that the vials were being reused among multiple users, increasing the risk of transmitting infections such as HIV. M. Naresh has been arrested, and legal proceedings are underway. The DCA has warned that if larger stocks are uncovered, additional charges, including cheating, may be imposed.

โ€œThe misuse of prescription drugs like mephentermine for performance enhancement is not only illegal but also life-threatening. We are committed to ensuring public safety and will continue our crackdown on such illicit activities.โ€
