The Uttar Pradesh government has presented a record ₹9.13 lakh crore budget for fiscal year 2026-27, with significant allocations earmarked for strengthening health infrastructure. The budget prioritizes expansion of medical colleges, new hospitals, AI-enabled diagnostics, primary healthcare upgrades, and Ayushman Bharat enhancements to improve access and quality of care across the state.

Glimpse:

Uttar Pradesh’s 2026-27 budget totals ₹9.13 lakh crore, with health sector receiving a substantial increase to support new medical colleges, district hospitals, trauma centres, and digital health initiatives. Key health highlights include funding for 10 new medical colleges, modernisation of PHCs and CHCs, expansion of cancer and cardiac care units, and AI-driven tools for disease surveillance and telemedicine. The emphasis aims to reduce referral load on major centres, strengthen rural healthcare, and align with national goals of universal health coverage.

Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister presented the state’s ₹9.13 lakh crore budget for 2026-27 in the Assembly, marking one of the largest state budgets in India. The fiscal plan reflects the government’s continued priority on human development, with the health and medical education sector receiving a notable boost to address long-standing gaps in infrastructure and workforce.

Major health-related allocations and initiatives include: Establishment of 10 new medical colleges to increase MBBS and PG seats and improve doctor-to-population ratio Upgradation and expansion of district hospitals, trauma centres, and critical care facilities in underserved districts Modernisation of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) with better equipment, diagnostic labs, and digital connectivity Strengthening cancer care through dedicated oncology units and screening programs AI and digital health push  deployment of AI tools for early disease detection, telemedicine expansion, and integration with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) Focus on maternal & child health enhanced funding for nutrition, immunization, and high-risk pregnancy care

The budget also supports recruitment of additional doctors, nurses, and paramedics, alongside incentives for specialists to serve in rural areas. Officials highlighted that the increased health outlay is aimed at reducing patient travel to Delhi and other metros for advanced treatment, strengthening last-mile delivery, and preparing the state for future public health challenges.

This health-focused budget aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s broader vision of becoming a leader in affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare, complementing national initiatives like Ayushman Bharat and the National Health Mission.

“Health is our top priority. This budget lays the foundation for world-class medical infrastructure right here in Uttar Pradesh.”
